My name is Jay Morrissey.  I am the result of dozens of years in real-world schooling.  After working in a multitude of industries, both as an employee and as a freelancer, I found that the ability to connect with people was always the most important factor in my success.  I am now in a position to be able to share with you all that I have learned, and to enrich your experience of life one article at a time.

As an avid reader, I have benefited greatly from the support, advice and information from other authors. I feel that it is only fitting that I give something back to the community.

If I can bring some helpful words to even a single person out there, then my efforts would be well worth it. In my life, I have done my best to be a supporting friend, to encourage and nurture an alternative point of view. I look forward to casting a wide net, and sharing my experiences with you.

This is just a small comment to tell you that I’ve read some of the articles you’ve posted here. I find that you not only have a very … erm, understandable & easy to follow way of expressing your thoughts, but the examples you give & the small bits of pieces of “inside information” work together really great!

I can’t comment on every post because of lack of time, but I’d like you to know that, whether you believe it or not, people who stumble upon this blog (literally, haha) like I did have a lot to learn from you!

Have nice days & huge joys from small things.

    ~Emma.

    you have my attention.
i’ve subscribed and will be returning.
will you be authoring any books? :)

also, several comments here from stumbleupon.
    a campaign might do wonders…

I’m becoming an avid fan of personal development, and aside from 30 sleeps, this is the only PD-blog I’ve found that I can relate to, and that really inspires me instead of just handing out cheap tricks. I will be following it’s progress very attentively. :) Keep up the good work, Jay!

Emma: Thank you for your kind words. I have been very fortunate to learn from people in my personal life, and am overjoyed to be able to share it with readers like you online.

Megan: Many thanks for subscribing. To write a book has been my passion for a long time. In fact, these articles will form the basis of a Communications book I aim to release next year.

Also, any campaigning would be very much appreciated. I have found that the users who come through stumbleupon leave informative and intelligent comments. This motivates me, and adds value to all of the articles too. Thank you again!

Robert: I am glad to know that you enjoy the articles. I have benefited greatly from reading other online blogs, but have found recently that the amount of practical content has diminished significantly. I started JayMorrissey.com to appeal to a small market of people who took the time to read, rather than offer quick “5 ways to…” articles that shared nothing new.

I am glad to welcome all of you to the site, and am proud to have readers of your calibre in our community.

    -Jay

Another quick note, Jay. I perceive your manner of writing to be incredibly humble and sincere; refreshing qualities that allow (me personally) to receive your messages with enthusiasm. Each and every time I observe these qualities in others, it increases my capacity to embody them myself. Or perhaps I *remeber* how natural this way of being really is.

I wish HEAPS of success with your forthcoming books. And should you ever like to discuss marketing on the internet, I’d be delighted to share some of my knowledge with you as you so generously share yours with us, your readers.

I found your website when your article “Fight Back When You Are Intimidated” was posted on lifehacker.com. I have been reading your articles and I have to say I love the topics you cover and how you write about them. Keep up the good work.

I’m just echoing what others have said but I came here from Lifehacker and was so impressed with the referenced article that I had to read the rest of your posts. What perfect timing as well, as I see so much of myself in the common mistakes that you have mentioned. I also respect your humble and honest nature. I look forward to more articles.

I just wanted to say I’m really enjoying your articles. You have a great talent for writing. A directness and clarity that’s a pleasure to read and a warm tone that, as you recommend, addresses a stranger in the same tone as a friend.

    Looking forward to future articles…

I stumbled across your website via lifehacker.com; I definitely must say that i find the style and level of information refreshing. I have been looking for a site just like this, I have grown weary of sites that offer advice in a quick 5 point bullet list. Another contributing factor of why i like the writing is the personal stories that you incorporate into them. I enjoyed the article so much, i have since read all of your articles and recommended them to others to read. I look forward to more articles from you.

Lifehacker also led me to this blog and I appreciated what I’ve read here so much that I have subscribed.
“Coincidentally”, I’ve been struggling with my own dilemma of whether or not to give up my cubicle job in hell and the fat paycheque that goes with it, in order to do outdoor work like I used to do and that I know I’ll enjoy more but that pays less. I may have the opportunity to do this now, and it’s only a matter of making the decision. Your article on this matter supported all my own arguments as to why I should make this leap.
Thank you, and keep up the great work.

    Jay,
Your postings on confidence and standing up to verbal abuse were truly outstanding. Your advice will change how I tackle the work place tomorrow morning. Thank you for that.

Perhaps you could elaborate on your professional background? It would be helpful to gain an understanding of the perspective you’re speaking from.

Thank you everyone for your amazing support. I e-mailed Tamar (from LifeHacker) a “Thank you note” for sending such intellectual readers to my articles.

You have all inspired me to continue writing, and in return, I will keep these articles going. As I mentioned in the “About” page, I began writing for a single person. I am overjoyed that I can help so many more.

James: My professional background is quite simple. I began working at the age of 15 in customer service roles. I studied hard as a postgraduate student who was on the way the earning a PhD. As I grew impatient, I settled for a Masters Degree and became an educator for two years.

I then began working at a leading consultancy firm. Starting as a technician, I quickly moved into small management roles. In an effort to learn more, I shifted between several enterprises, offering more money and more experience. Unfortunately, I found that my passion lies in neither of those two things, so I left the corporate environment to become a University teacher again.

I teach part time, focussing on writing and working on my businesses with the remainder. So to put it simply, I am an average person, who has had the opportunity to learn from those who are extraordinary. Everything I am, I owe to others.

I have been in many shoes in my lifetime. What I am able to bring to you in writing is fragments of what I have learned, and the many things that have made me smile at the worst of times. None of which make me happier than coming home and reading the many encouraging words from all of you. Truly, thank you.

I really love my friend for introducing me to this site. Though I’ve only read two post, your words have already greatly affected me and my goals. I really want to try talking to a stranger, which is weird since I’m probably one of the last people who would think this. I’m hoping your other topics give me as much insight.

    Hi Jay !

It has been just 1/2 an hour going through your site. Browsing through your posts regarding ‘how to handle insults’ and ‘too much of self help’ has already influenced me so much.

I personally am a self help junkie and an ardent reader of the works of many self help gurus. But as you said it, it was always been with the intention of becoming perfect rather than finding answers to the right questions. Now, I have taken a note of being much more action oriented and returning to self development writings only to find answers to the appropriate questions.

Going through your ‘ About ‘ section gave me a strong feeling that you are a genuine individual with good intentions to help us all. Keep up the good work bro.

Can’t wait to browse through the rest of your articles ( when required :) to gain from your valuable advices.

    Love,
    Anshuman

Thank you sir for your straightforward advice on things that one rather feels than can explain. For 28 years i never heard such useful practical things from anyone, not even my parents. You fill the gap. You do the right thing. I read your articles in one breath. Thank you.
